As a student of psychology, the most important aspect is to Think Critically. Critical thinkers have the ability to distinguish scientific psychology vs pseudoscience by making objective judgments based on well-supported reasons and empirical evidence. Recently, the pickup and seduction community have gone mainstream and the public’s appetite for pickup and seduction information has been booming. This created a huge market for psychobabble and most “Pickup Artist” and “Seduction Gurus” exploit this niche market by using psychological and scientific-sounding languages to make it seem like it’s the real deal. They promise you a better lifestyle by learning how to “attract” more women or getting over anxiety by “reprogramming” your brain. All sorts or tricks, gimmicks, and quackery have leaked into the market and the majority of the public just soaks it up without ever having any ounce of skepticism about what exactly their absorbing. It’s a cut-throat business where so called Pickup Artist (Business Men) charge a fortune for their services and get rich off the misfortune of others. Today you can find all sorts of psychobabble on the internet and because so many pop-psych ideas have been absorbed into the public’s consciousness, we are in dire need to distinguish between real psychology and pop- psychology. One way of distinguishing pop-psych is by Critical Thinking. Mystery is renowned for his astounding ability to teach and demonstrate the Art of Seduction using his techniques he popularized called Mystery Method. I’ve read tons of PUA related stuff from Neil Strauss, David De Angelo, Ross Jeffries, along with ton of other seduction expert that are well-known for their contribution in the seduction community and a lot of their material are well written and structured. They’re good writers which make their stuff enjoyable to read but this stuff falls in the category of pop-psych and is frowned upon in the psychology and science community because the information given from them have not been scientifically validated therefore it can be misleading.

Some of you may be thinking, “What’s the harm in reading these self-help books? They don’t hurt anyone.” Well here are three potential dangers of pop-psych and self-help books:

  1. People may falsely label themselves as psychologically disturbed.
  2. People may misdiagnose themselves and use material that deals with the wrong problems.
  3. People may not be able to evaluate a program and may select an ineffective one.

Always be skeptical when reading PUA material because most of the PUA stuff falls under the category of pop-psych. As far as game goes, most self-help book tend to harm your game more than it helps. For example, after reading a book on “What Women Want”, an individual will become more aware of the present moment and when talking to a woman all he’s going to be thinking about is “Ok, am I doing well?”, “Does she like me?”, or “What do I say now to get her to like me?” and forget about having a conversation that would flow naturally. This is why most people’s mind goes blank when talking to someone, because they are over thinking the situation. Now I’m not telling you to burn all the PUA stuff you own but it’s probably best if you borrow a copy through a friend (or just download them) and when there’s some information in there you find interesting, get on the web and see what’s out there. If you are really interested in the subject of sex or love, the most reliable information is through university course so go online and check out what courses are offered and check out which textbook they’re using.
